Not your typical Libby Lou's

Our hope is that the internet cafe becomes a haven for the kids and teens in the community. In an effort to begin this process, the interns (Rebecca and Nicole) and I hosted a girls makeover type party in the cafe. Several girls came and at first seemed very shy. Nobody really wanted to be the first to climb into the beauty chair. So I did the only thing I could do. I dragged one of them into the chair and began a braiding demonstration and just kind of yapped away while they got more comfortable. After a few minutes some of them mustered up the courage to let the interns paint their nails and it quickly turned into a beautifying fest. Some of the older girls were acting like they were too cool for makeup, or whatever they were being offered, but a sweet little thing name Naomi changed that mood right away. She was up for anything and everything. Nails? Hair? Makeup? Perfume? Cookies? Juice? SURE! Why not? I think if we had had glitter to sprinkle all over her she would have been up for that too. While seeing Naomi have fun getting pampered, the rest of the "cool" girls jumped in and finally started having some fun too. It's hard to really know what the outcome of this event could be. It doesn't really seem like a life changing experience, does it? Other than some cute faces and bouncy hair, the results of the heart aren't at all visible. Unless you look a little deeper and realize that maybe some of these girls don't get a lot of attention or feel valued. I doubt all of them get complimented very often, judging by their shocked to beaming faces if they received a compliment. To have seen them trickle in shy, awkward and even doubtful and then see them skip away as a group, laughing and chattering away like old friends, well, maybe there were a few seeds planted in their hearts of love and affection. Of value and importance. Hopefully one day soon they will undertsand that this love, affection, value and importance is placed on them by none other than their Creator.

There was an infiltrator...we threatened to paint his nails, but gave him cookies instead.

What lovely little princesses! I remember when I invited all the young pre-teen girls to our house in Jardines to go through a "Girl's Christian Charm Course". A result? Ligia Amaya (now Stapleford) received the Lord. We didn't see her at church for the next seven years, but when she decided she wanted something more in her college-aged-life, she started coming to IBB and got permission from Orestila to be baptized. She's living in Vermont and is a wonderful Christian mother to several children of her own. It may take a few years, but the results will come! God BLESS you all for your kind efforts and for being Christ's hands!!!

Thanks Momma. I didn't know that about Ligia and it is encouraging to know how the Lord works. We know He will use this in some special way.

Sarah, I tried a men's fashion show in SPS, but that failed miserably. The results are still engrained in the minds of the poor participants. I will pay dearly in heaven! 8>(

Naw Dad, those in heaven have laughed extensively at your expense. It's with my brothers who you will pay dearly for it...you know...for dressing them like girls. = )

Jaime, it was a lot of fun. I'm sorry to say that the new decor is only at a storage point in the cafe until we can find a safe way to bring them up the mountain...where they belong. They are beautiful lamps though! And we are enjoying them while we can.
