Meet Ponkey
Everyone, this is Ponkey. He’s our cool new neighbor who likes to perch on fingers. I’ve officially become a parakeet whisperer.
He likes whispers, especially if they are in spanglish. If he were mine I would let him out of his cage and give him the freedom to fly forever. Except he can’t fly so I guess it’s just as well that he’s in his cage most of the day. I have an announcement to make. I’m officially a Latina. (not that I wasn’t before but this is just open proof) I can hand slap my own tortillas to near perfection. When I used to attempt tortilla making I was forced to resort to spreading the dough out on a counter, an ingenious alternative passed on to me by my beloved brother Dani. Now I slap those suckers silly in no time. Yessss! According to Nacho, they are guuuud, better yet, they’re fanTAstic! The other night I made these Honduran things called baleadas. Mmmmm…yummeee.
So life here near the beach is amazing. I find myself wishing that everyone I know who is not here could enjoy this season in our lives with us. God always has and continues to bless us. There have already been some difficulties with tasks we have had to tackle, but it’s been humbling and at the same time exciting to see the wondrous ways God in his sovereignty has chosen to provide above and beyond what we’ve needed. Praised be the God of our faith!
Just as a side note, I pity every person who does not enjoy fresh watermelon juice every day. I hope as you read this you are having a special day and remain ever mindful of God’s presence around you. To my loved ones, I think of you often and pray for your wellbeing! Chao.
P.S. The Spanish lesson for the day is that “jugo de sandia” means “watermelon juice.”
